The library is open every school day from 7:30am until 3:00pm. The library operates on a flexible/fixed schedule that allows students from any class to use the resources and check out books any time their classroom schedule allows. Kindergarten and first grade students visit the library on a fixed schedule to listen to stories and participate in literacy activities. Other grade levels are scheduled throughout the year to practice research and technology skills related to the curriculum.

During the 3rd nine weeks, our 1st grade students have an opportunity to participate in the 1st Grade Chapter Book Challenge as a special enhancement reading encouragement. Current suggested titles found in Lucy T. Davis Elementary's library are listed for parents and students.

South Carolina Book Awards
The purpose of the South Carolina Book Awards is to encourage our students to read good quality contemporary literature and to honor the authors of the books each year chosen by students who vote for their favorite title. The book award medals are awarded to the winning authors the following year at the annual conference of the South Carolina Association of School Librarians.

Teacher Resources
The library schedule changes each month according to the needs of the students. The flexible schedule allows students and teachers the ability to use the library whenever it is needed. Teacher-Librarian collaboration is encouraged and always welcomed.

The What, The Why, and The How to Digital Citizenship Digital Curation provides resources for understanding, resources for importance, and resources for teaching digital citizenship, cyberbullying, and internet safety.

Common Sense Media - Provides reading, entertainment, and technology recommendations for families including expert reviews and objective advice based on age appropriateness. Also includes a variety of parent advice sorted by age of children to support education with advancing technology trends.
Family Literacy Calendar - A site sponsored by the South Carolina State Library to develop early literacy skills. A different literacy tidbit for each day of each month.

Arcademic Skill Builders - Educational games that include math, money, spelling, and more.
Book Adventure - Read books and take a practice test on them. This is NOT the same as the school's Reading Renaissance Accelerated Reader program and it will not count at school. A good way to know if a student has understood the book.
Chateau Meddybemps - Learning activities and stories for children grades PK-3.
DISCUS - Search through a large variety of educational sites that are sorted by age, grade level, or research category topic with many including vidoes and interactive learning opportunities. Some sites may require users to login outside of the school setting. Please contact the school's media specialist for assistance.
DK Find Out! - Includes videos, fun facts, quizzes, and research opportunities for students through use of keywords and topics.
Earth Cam for Kids - Explore parks, aquariums, zoos, space, weather, cities, and much more through live cameras set up all over the world. These images may be updated anywhere from every day to every 30 seconds.
Enchanted Learning - Designed for younger students, this site links to many fun and educational activities such as nursery rhymes, crafts, a dictionary, maps, oceans, dinosaurs, themes, animal printouts and much more.
Fact Monster - Provides information on a variety of topics with fun dated historical facts that can be lots of homework help.
F1S Destiny - District accessed site for library material look up to locate and manage school library resources.
International Children's Digital Library - Access to the best of children's world literature, promoting tolerance and respect for diverse cultures.
Kids Planet - Explore wildlife of the world through facts, stories and games. Also includes essay contests about animals and what can be done to save different species of animals. Fun and educational!
Kids' Reference Desk - Links to a number of reference sites for student searching.
MyON by Renaissance - Accessible by students with the use of their AR username and password giving the right to view over 6,000 online books on a variety of topics.
National Geographic Animals for Kids - Basic information for students about a variety of animals. Includes photos and videos.
StudySC - Contains biographies, historical information, and state symbols all associated with the state of South Carolina.
